Aliens VS. Predator Demo Impressions
The AVP demo is 780 MB in size and it features all three playable species in one death match mode. The demo is currently available on STEAM, PSN, and Xbox 360. The footage is from the Xbox 360 version.
The atmosphere is intense and each character plays very differently. Rebellion really made this three way battle an interesting, exciting fight.
Loved:
- The tense brooding atmosphere – it really quickens the heart
- The three different species are represented beautifully – you’ll find one that you really latch on too (I enjoyed being the Predator)
- The lighting effects and kill moves are fantastic
- I really want to dive into the single player modes
- Lots and lots of glorious carnage
Meh:
- The demo had one multiplayer mode
- A few clipping issues with the Alien model during transitions
- Minor online glitches
Hated:
- A myriad of minor graphical issues and glitches
- Textures are a bit weak on Xbox 360 when you get up close
Overall:
It has been a long time since AVP fans got a title worthy of the name and this one is clearly the best. The demo also demonstrates Rebellion’s talent considering their last few titles have been pretty weak. That said, the demo definitely has some warts and hopefully these have been ironed out by the final launch as it currently falls short of the triple A status on the consoles.
Is it fun? YES. Really, that is the ultimate point of any game. I can’t wait to facehug my 1080p TV when the final North American edition launches.
Definitely worth the download if you have a PS3 or Xbox 360 and like multiplayer frag fests. I enjoyed it and I normally am a single player kind of guy.
If you download the demo off STEAM – you are probably getting the best experience. Just beware that you will need to play around until you fully understand the various species quirks and controls. Definite download.
