Six Million Copies of Mario & Sonic at Olympic Winter Games Sold
With six million copies sold between the DS and Wii versions of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games – I think it is safe to say that the game presented a safe, fun, and family-friendly experience for lots of Nintendo owners.
It wasn’t perfect but nowhere near as bad as the “hardcore” made it sound – those pesky vocal 3% of the gaming universe (which include me). The game was good clean fun. The appeal of the characters and the pull of the Olympic games translated well into the game and consumers spoke to the tune of 6 million copies.
So, apparently third-party developed titles can sell on the Wii when they are masquerading as first-party Nintendo titles.
We are in the money now, SEGA FANS! Mike Hayes, CEO for SEGA America and SEGA Europe, was pleased:
“The original Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games™ was a huge success for SEGA…Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games is one of the leading third party games for Wii and DS and we were confident the title would have longevity within retail. The start of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games is a perfect time to ensure SEGA is at the forefront of the consumer’s mind when it comes to recreating that Olympic Winter Games feeling in living rooms everywhere.”
