Vanquish is 80% Complete, Confirmed for PS3 and Xbox 360

PG-Announce-Vanquish

The details on Platinum Games’ Vanquish were slim but thanks to an interview with Famitsu some pretty cool details have emerged across the web.

The game is being developed with a global focus so the team decided to create a shooter rather than the typical action games that Shinji Mikami and the team are known for creating in the past. The story features a conflict between the United States and Russian, who are engaged in a stand-off.

They have decided to create a shooter that focuses on speed and tempo. Mikami states:

“Making a normal shooter wouldn’t be interesting…so it has the concept of the feeling of speed and good tempo, and something flashy. There are lots of games where you shoot and kill people, so this time we wanted to try and see how we could convey the good feeling of shooting robots.”

Mikami also let loose some gameplay features such as “boosts” which allow gamers to close the gap between the main character and the enemies. The game will highlight close-range attacks and feature a “Bullet Time” feature that slows down time.

Furthermore, the game has no specific weapons rather the character’s main weapon transforms to respond to the situation at hand in real time. The game is currently 80% complete and is heading to market this Winter in Japan.

The game sounds interesting however the focus on speed and tempo makes me think that Mikami is taking another crack at the basic idea behind P.NO3.
