Sonic Colors Announcement Overview

sonic colors

Sonic is a character that has many fans all of whom are at various stages of life. From the very young to the elderly, any Sonic announcement is met with furious attention. So, if you haven’t heard of Sonic Colors yet, I guess you must have been outside in the summer sun or buried under a rock (or in my case, cables).

While Sonic the Hedgehog 4 may be delayed, SEGA fans have a new title to get excited about. Here is a quick overview of all the information we know since the title was announced yesterday:

  1. The new Sonic title is Nintendo only – it lands on the DS and Wii in North America & Japan
  2. Sonic Team is developing the Wii version (However, it is the same team that created the “Storybook” entries)
  3. DIMPS in association with Sonic Team is crafting the DS version
  4. The Wii version will have 3D/2D sections, utilize point mechanics
  5. The DS version will utilize both screens
  6. The game is targeted towards a younger audience in terms of difficulty and learning curve
  7. Sonic will be embarking on a “solo” adventure for single player and is set in space
  8. The announcement caused a brief spike in SEGA’s stock numbers
  9. The game is said to be launching this Holiday season, it will be playable at E3
  10. The game will be featured on the cover of Nintendo Power next month

The buzz around the title so far is generally positive and apparently the “Storybook” series has been effectively scrapped and this title shows a new direction for the team.

It is hard to cast any judgement on 20 seconds of trailer; however, I like the idea of the title using 2D gameplay mechanics and the early scenes we’ve seen of the art design look very nice.
