Why it is a Crying Shame that the West Does Not Have Border Break

The footage for Border Break looks intensely fun and action-packed and it is a multiplayer squad-based game at heart. It looks like the mechs have a nice sense of weight to them. It is a terrible thing that gamers in the West have never gotten to try this successful title from Japan.

I guess the major issue for porting the title would be finding an elegant way to make some of the touch screen and pseudo-PC control scheme work at home, there is an awesome review of the title on Mecha Damashii, where the author writes:

“[T]the cabinet sports a joystick and a mouse. The left joystick controls movement, boosting, jumping and crouching – the latter also doubles for context sensitive actions (such as using a repair station or a magnetic catapult) and the right mouse controls looking, firing, weapon selection and a target camera lock. However, despite all these apparently almost standardised elements Border Break manages to riff off them to create something wholly new. This is more than anything else due to a fantastically clever touchscreen interface, as you can literally point to any part of the game world and give commands to your team mates, such as defend this position or capture this spawn point.”

The word out of Japan is that the title something special and you got wonder if it would be better as PSN and XBLA title over a boxed game. There is a forum thread at SEGA that is asking for the game: here.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to let them know what you think. Hit the jump to check out the videos:

I hope the title doesn’t have too many development hurdles to stop it from coming to the West but the PS3 does at least support mouse and keyboard controls.
