Some of the members at Sonic Retro are “critiquing” Dimps work on the Sonic series by crafting a parody of the title by adding speed boosters to Sonic 2.

I guess this fits into the discussion of speed and momentum in Sonic titles as a reward mechanic rather than as a fundamental aspect of gameplay.

But really, I’m not certain this parody is Swiftian in nature because I want to play the hack because it looks like fun. But than again, I’m a bastard Sonic fan that should be shot and pissed on.  But I guess that’s the point – Sonic fandom rage and criticism has become a crude parody of itself.

_{Sonic 2 Dimps Edition is a hack by myself (with assistance by MarkeyJester and Tweaker) which is a parody of Dimps’ style with Sonic games. The most notable addition to the game is speed boosters, which will be appearing in as much levels as possible.}

_{Also, there will be physics tweaks to dumb down Sonic much like Dimps have done with the games. Tails has also been removed from the game, but nobody gives a shit about him. He’s still playable in the special stages due to my lazy edits and my hatred of working with the special stage programming.}

_{The boss music has also been changed to something you should recognise. Dr Robotnik’s Big Gay Circus should come into mind. The hack will also have misplaced sound effects like Sonic 4 has.}

_{Work is still ongoing and things are subject to change. Hopefully the hack will be ready for a release at SAGE 2010.}

_{As Ken Balough would say, “this is truly Sonic the Hedgehog 2 as you imagined it”.}

This is a shocking amount of anger at a game that is not yet completed and still being developed. How can a series of games – no matter how crappy or good – inspire this much anger when it features a cute blue mammal in red running shoes?

Oh well, I wish the hack well because I know these fans just want to make sure Sonic 4 comes out a stronger product. But really, wouldn’t it be better to infiltrate DIMPS by using your talents and craft a great Sonic title from inside the company?
