Website Story: Hey Shiro Fans, Whatcha Playing? :)

Work, work, and more work – that is pretty much it for me currently! I’ve been so tired I haven’t even set-up the Move controllers  to play House of the Dead III. It feels like I haven’t had a whole bunch of time to actually play any games with any seriousness but I have tasted quite a few in “single hour” chunks.

Here is the run down with impressions:

1. Resident Evil Revelations 3DS – It is quite stunning and feels like a great mix of Resident Evil 1 and part 4. It is the best reason to own the 3DS by a country mile (spelling error non-withstanding). My favourite new element so far is the episodic nature of the game (similar to Alan Wake) which lets me pick up and play at my leisure.

2. Twisted Metal 2012 – I’ve read some reviews out there that completely get this game wrong – it isn’t hard at all. The story mode features a great pick-up and play experience with humorously dark storylines. If you are new to the experience it can seem like a clustering nightmare at first but once you learn the controls the game really opens up in spectacular fashion. I’m using the “Race” control option and I can literally jump 360 degrees on a dime and shoot rockets at an enemy. The game is bloody fun if you were weaned on Twisted Metal and Twisted Metal 2. It is such nice surprise.

3. Dead Space 2 – I’m way overdue on playing this one. It is excellent so far. I love all the little details and the action is gruesome. However, I never really found the series that scary. Unnerving? Yes a little. But more gory than anything else. The production values are incredible though.

4. Rayman Origins – It is such a pretty game with glorious art. The controls are spot on and the co-op multi-player is where it is at – imagine New Super Brothers without the relationship ending physics.

5. PS Vita – I’ve been giving it the run through its paces and it is a nice piece of hardware. That said, I have got the system to  freeze once already (I did it on day 2) and I really dislike the placement of the power button and the flap to access the cartridge slot. However, outside of that – it is really, really nice hardware. If it weren’t for Resident Evil my 3DS would be collecting dust. The Vita will be my new”play-before-sleep-unless-sex” system. Uncharted is quite stunning, Virtua Tennis is more or less the same as the PS3 edition with some of the Vita-omly elements being a bit underwhelming, Wipeout 2048 is solid entry in the series, and I haven’t been even bothered to try Little Deviants. I can’t seem to find Army Corps of Hell anywhere which I wanted to try because of it being a new IP and it was name checked against Pikmin. Oh, and there are absolutely no manuals in the Vita cases.

So…what are you playing? Feel free to share it in the comments!

ps. im still unsure of vita. maybe I will jump in when it gets a phantasy star entry, which I think is inevitable :)

Totally understandable.I imagine the holiday season will bring a solid bundle and pricepoint for the Vita.

I just hope the game selection of Vita keeps coming strong and it would be nice to see a Valkyria Chronicles/Yakuza title on it (the second analog stick is nice) in the West.

I’m sure a Project Diva title will be inbound as well but I can’t wait to see what new stuff SEGA unleashes on the device.

I also wouldn’t be shocked if SEGA tried to port Samurai Bloodshow and Brick People to it.

The Vita is great. Been playing the demo unit at work from time to time. Give Frobisher Says a go if you get a chance, hilarious little Warioware-style game.

I’ve been playing the Metal Gear HD collection, only Peacewalker so far though… and I tried out the Metal Gear 3DS demo, which is beautiful but I could really use that circle pad pro. Ditto for the Resi Revelations demo.

I also finally got Catherine which just came out here recently. Asura’s Wrath on Friday? I want to, but do I have time..?

I think Asura’s Wrath is 6 hours. That’s it. I did not like the Metal Gear Demo on 3DS at all. Resident Evil is amazing but I am currently lost.
