Virtua Fighter 5R Items Can Turn Akira into Segata Sanshiro!

big_100531a

Damn! This image makes me very happy as the latest items to be added to Virtua Fighter 5R are the wonderful SEGA consoles that saw ports of the series. So SPARKLY!

The console prices of the in-game items are a reflection of the original launch price of the consoles in real life. I got dibs on Saturn and Akira – only because it will be the ultimate homage to Sanshiro.

This probably the best Saturn in-game reference since Alpha Protocol.

Karnov’s Revenge hits Virtual Console

fh-jean425

SEGA Saturn fans might remember this gem of a title Karnov’s Revenge or otherwise known as Fighter’s History Dynamite has hit the Virtual Console. It is by no means a great title but it is hilarious nonetheless as it is a complete rip-off of Street Fighter 2.

Seriously, a carbon-copy that has next to no shame and for this reason alone it is almost worth trying. It used the 1-meg cart and had some decent effects for the time.  We’ll be checking out the import version on the Saturn eventually and now if you like it you have another place you can pick it up.

There is a SEGA Saturn in Alpha Protocol!

saturn_alpha_protocol-600x381Spotted by UK:R, this is the best in-game homage to SEGA SATURN since Ryo’s hardware in Shenmue. It’s a nice little addition to the espionage RPG and makes it feel…hmmm…more SEGA.

Even super agents relax with a good bit of old school gaming.

SOTW: Sonic and the Black Knight – Molten Mine

SOTW 10

Yep, it is that time again, time for another SOTW. And it’s another Sonic song except it’s a more recent song, yet it actually isn’t very modern at all. Confused? Don’t be!

You see this song has a bit of a strange background to it as the song is a remix of the ‘Action Theme’ of the Saturn/Playstation game entitled ‘Black Dawn’. I am not entirely sure if the same composer done the remix, but what I am sure of is that both the songs are pretty badass, so without further ado here are the songs:

Donpachi Revived for Japanese PSN Users

09-01SEGA Saturn SHMUP fans will love this one. Cave’s first manic shooter, Donpachi, is being revived on PSN in Japan via the Game Archive service. The price is set at 600 yen.

The Game Archive service has over 300 titles at that price point with many other shooters represented as well.

Donpachi is a fantastic shooter that kicked starteda sub-genre in the SHMUP world. Off the top of my head, I believe that this is one of those rare occasions where a 2D title was better on the PSone – if you played it in the standard 4:3.

However, the Saturn port was slightly lazy emulated version of the arcade but if you played in Tate mode it looked great. The sequel, Dodonpachi, however is pure Saturn brilliance.

Another oddball title that appeared on the Saturn, Zero Divide 2 also hits Games Archive today.
