Required Reading: Yuji Naka Interview & Support the NiGHTS Port

nightsThe folks at nightsintodreams.com managed to score an interview with none other than Yuji Naka himself. The main man took time out of busy schedule of promoting Ivy the Kiwi? on DS and Wii to discuss one of his most loved creations: NiGHTS.

“My initial goal has been reached and there may be more wonderful things happening. So many people loved NiGHTS for such a long time. I felt very happy throughout my career as a game creator, that the game influenced and touched the hearts of so many. Thank you so much for loving NiGHTS.”

You should head over to interview and read the whole thing as it is a wonderful read. I didn’t know that Canadian created Cirque du Soleil and Jung’s theories helped to inspire the game but now that I know I can see it. Also, be sure to sign the message board so SEGA can see that we want a port of the original title. Go, go, go!

Damn...sweet 32 bit love in PSN and XBLA!

Damn...sweet 32 bit love in PSN and XBLA!

Impress Watch had a particular awesome interview with Yosuke Okunari who is the Producer of the digital Dreamcast lineup for SEGA. Now, Okunari stated a lot of things that would interest a core SEGA fan including that SEGA is not actively ignoring Saturn but rather would like to hear what Saturn titles you would love to see ported to the digital line-up: Read the rest of this entry »

Required Reading: Yuji Naka 1UP Interview

In speaking with Ryan Barnholt from 1UP.com, Yuji Naka spoke about the past and present of his career. The interview is fantastic with a nice retrospective look at his SEGA days.

A couple of interesting comments have come out about the Sonic Team portion of his career during the 32-bit era – such as his apology to Saturn fans for not being able to complete a 3D Sonic on the system: Read the rest of this entry »

No voice acting = better experience!

The 15th Anniversary of NiGHTS is a year away but the crew at NiGHTSintodreams.com are already calling gamers to raise their collective voices that SEGA gamers want to see the original ported to current generation consoles.

It is a great idea. I imagine with the infrastructure in place from the Wii title it wouldn’t be too much of an effort to recreate the first the title without voice acting! Check out the site and leave your voice: nid15

The Price of Curiosity

You cant afford me...

So, what is the price of curiosity? In this case it’s a cool 100 quid. Hailed as one of the most overlooked videogames of all time and arguably the greatest game to grace the Saturn, Panzer Dragoon Saga is finally in my grubby little mitts.

Unfortunately, I’m a busy guy, so I haven’t had the pleasure of playing through the entire game yet but I’m still impressed as I have just began playing disc 3. The graphics are the best I’ve seen on Saturn and, whilst being technically dated, have a pleasant artistic edge that’s capable of obliterating the blemishes of age.

However,  the on-foot gameplay sections are almost painful as it’s been out performed even by games released as early as 1996 but it’s the battle system thats truly unique for me. However, before this escalates into a full blown review, I’ll have to have the courtesy of finishing the game first. For now, although it may be an unconscious attempt at justifying the £100 price tag, it’s pretty darn good.

Virtua Fighter 5R Items Can Turn Akira into Segata Sanshiro!

big_100531a

Damn! This image makes me very happy as the latest items to be added to Virtua Fighter 5R are the wonderful SEGA consoles that saw ports of the series. So SPARKLY!

The console prices of the in-game items are a reflection of the original launch price of the consoles in real life. I got dibs on Saturn and Akira – only because it will be the ultimate homage to Sanshiro.

This probably the best Saturn in-game reference since Alpha Protocol.

Karnov’s Revenge hits Virtual Console

fh-jean425

SEGA Saturn fans might remember this gem of a title Karnov’s Revenge or otherwise known as Fighter’s History Dynamite has hit the Virtual Console. It is by no means a great title but it is hilarious nonetheless as it is a complete rip-off of Street Fighter 2.

Seriously, a carbon-copy that has next to no shame and for this reason alone it is almost worth trying. It used the 1-meg cart and had some decent effects for the time.  We’ll be checking out the import version on the Saturn eventually and now if you like it you have another place you can pick it up.
