Project DIVA Arcade Headlines SEGA’s AOU Booth

According to a variety of sources, SEGA’s biggest game at the AOU show features none other than the unstoppable  Hatsune Miku. Her cuteness could kill people. The arcade game runs on the Ringedge board and utilizes IC cards (or your cell phone) to store your data is used.

If you simply tap the IC card on the cabinet and your data is loaded over extended play gamers will earn Vocaloid points to unlock new music. Also gamers will be able to customize the way their Miku looks.

Ryan Winterhalter of Andriasang.com writes: “The game is played on a “Pop’n Music like controller with four buttons, Project Diva challenges players to follow visual cues and tap to rhythm of the music. Unlike traditional rhythm games, the visual cues don’t flow down some kind of line, instead they appear in various places across the screen in such a manner that they highlight whatever cute dance Miku is doing at the time.”

Japanese video community Nico Nico Douga has also partnered with SEGA to regularly supply new song content for the game. Hit jump for the gallery and more videos. Read the rest of this entry »
