Written Review: Gunstar Heroes Future (GBA)

Hey Shiro fans, remember a while ago I made a post about the ‘Mini Shiro Bunker’? If so you may also remember that in the post I mentioned a recording studio. Sadly, none of the equipment I ordered has arrived from the post therefore you will have to live with my less exciting but much more in depth written reviews!
Today I am going to be assessing a very overlooked Sega game…no, not Jet Set Radio but Gunstar Heroes. If you are in the majority and have not heard of Gunstar Heroes then here is a little info: Gunstar Heroes is a Mega Drive/Genesis game created by ‘Treasure.
Treasure is company that has a reputation due to it’s large amount of cult classic games, the game is essentially a 2-d shoot-em-up similar to games like Vectorman, the game takes you across all kinds of levels with many bosses and characters (all of which are named after colours like Red or Green).
Incidentally, I don’t actually own the Mega Drive title so I will have to review the GBA sequel/remake entitled Gunstar Heroes Future or Gunstar Super Heroes in North America. Read the rest of this entry »
Top 10 DC Titles We Would Love to See Return on PSN and Xbox Live
You knew this list was coming…the minute SEGA announced they were bringing in Dreamcast titles out of the vault, we sat down and thought about the10 titles we wanted the most regardless of whether or not we think SEGA would actually do it.
Just so you know – we threw some import only curve balls into the mix- so many gamers will be seeing these games for the first time.
We know we are missing a ton of great titles so give us your list in the comments – Space Channel 5, Chu Chu Rocket, and Alien Front Online would have been the next 3 titles on our list!
Tales of an Indie Game Designer: Character Design

Welcome to the second chapter of the wondrous ’Tales of an Indie Game Designer’ last time I was moaning about level design being a great hassle.
Guess what? Character design is a whole new level of mundane. While game design is fun, you begin to realize to render everything as ”in-complete,” to create anything worth looking at requires full concentration.
For example, the zombie design above probably took about an hour to create, this means that I was sitting isolated on Photoshop for about an hour (which trust me is not really a desirable experience). Now, I realise the error of my ways, whilst you do need full concentration company is also needed. Read the rest of this entry »
Tales of an Indie Game Designer: Level Design

Welcome to the very first chapter of ’Tales of a Game Designer’, this is a feature that will be exclusive to Segashiro. In this feature, I will rant on some of the various elements that must be encountered when creating a game.
If you have read my recent post you will already know that I have started working on a game entitled De-Block, I have met many problems during the creation of ’De-Block’ and I am generating these posts in hope that I can either inspire or assist other indie game developers. Hideki Kamiya Expresses Disappointment at Pornographic Bayonetta Doujinshi
Game guru, Hideki Kamiya, at Platinum Games has expressed his concern over the release of Bayonetta Doujinshi. For those not in the know – Doujinshi are fan fiction comics that tend to focus on “adult” themes of love and sexuality.
These can range from normal depictions of love to the perversion of hentai. Granted, anyone who has seen a trailer of Bayonetta knew that Doujinshi and pornographic art were coming. Why? Because we as a species are not very creative and very predictable. We also love sex.
However, Doujinshi is also a sign that the character is popular and Bayonetta with her hair attacks and love of dancing is fertile ground for devious and perverted minds (like my own).
Now, while the internet is laughing because Kamiya made an overtly sexual and female character and now seems shocked that “fans” would exploit his creation in a sexual manner, I think people are missing the point of the comment:
“It seems there’s pornographic doujinshi based off Bayonetta… There are fans who will resent that, and I hardly think those responsible [for the doujinshi] hold any love for the game…”
Kamiya is only suggesting that the people creating hentai versions of his character aren’t staying true to the nature of her character and that there are fans who would resent it. I happen to be one of them and I will tell you why:
