Game Gear on 3DS Virtual Console Overview

SEGA just released this week the first set of Game Gear games on the 3DS Virtual Console. This really a great way to play SEGA’s back catalogue of portable titles as the play experience is better than on the original console. The tiered price points are nice and I hope SEGA releases a lot more titles like Shining Force and Panzer Dragoon Mini.

Check out the Overview video up above that describes a bit of the history of the Game Gear and shows off Sonic Triple Trouble running on the system with the various featuers (please excuse the poor playing it is hard to play the 3DS and capture footage at the same time). I am quite impressed with SEGA’s effort with these portable titles.
After the jump, we have footage pulled off-screen from the same game running the Game Gear. We also have footage from Shinobi on the 3DS and on the Game Gear – the difference is quite astonishing:

SEGASHIRO UNPLUGGED – Episode V – Brick People, Samurai Blood Show, and Leucistic Wyvern
Apple has made a series of toys known as the iPod and iPad – and people love them! I hate iTunes DRM and Apple snobbery with a passion but SEGA content will be the bridge over that hate with a multi-coloured rainbow of gaming love – this episode covers Samurai Blood Show and Brick People!
Also included is marmalade and a SEGA game “knock-off” – a concept we may revisit again in the near future. This is about as normal as an episode can get from us – it clocks in at just over 16 minutes.
SEGASHIRO UNPLUGGED – Episode IV – SEGA GAMES WE WANT IN THE WEST!
Games from SEGA of Japan are close to our hearts hence an extra long episode of Japanese goodness that features gameplay from: Yakuza Of the End, Valkyria Chronicles III, and Yakuza Black Panther! We also briefly talk about Rhythm Thief R and 7th Dragon 2020! The episode clocks in at 26:07.
Of course there is also a lot of randomness like a mash-up of Melissa Cherry and Gal Gun, Cookie Monster Metal and Spiral Knights, Miku and Ulala…but you gotta watch to see it all!

SEGASHIRO UNPLUGGED – Episode III – Renegade Ops, Last Bronx & Anarchy in the Nippon
Kicking it old school for an episode – including a vignette of Jungle Strike – the SEGASHIRO team checks out Renegade Ops and some classic under-the-radar Saturn 3D fighters! The episode clocks in at just over 17 minutes!
SEGASHIRO UNPLUGGED: Episode II – Toot, Toot Sonic Warrior!
Clocking in at under 19 minutes…this episode of SEGASHIRO UNPLUGGED covers Sonic CD related news and the Crush 40 Guitar by ESP. Or course, the wanky randomness returns in full effect! Lots of music in this one.
Seriously…this is the only show where Street Fighting Miku Controllers, Whisper Tampons, and Sonic Guitars all come together.

SEGASHIRO UNPLUGGED – Episode 1 – Virtua Fighter, Aliens, and Sonic!
Clocking in at just under 15 minutes…this first episode of SEGASHIRO UNPLUGGED covers the most recent Sonic news, looks at the Aliens trailer, and discusses Virtua Fighter Final Showdown. Interwoven is other assorted randomness and wankery - Sewer Shark, anyone?
Enjoy it – but let it load in full before you sit down to watch with a cup of your favorite beverage! Mind the echo…we will fix that for the next episode (hopefully). The animations however will always be wonky.
